Week 1

Learning How to Confidently Hold and Assist Your Baby in the Water

In the early stages of water introduction, one of the most powerful things a parent can learn is how to confidently and safely support their baby in the water. Our program focuses on teaching you the correct techniques to hold your baby in ways that encourage natural movement, promote independence, and develop early aquatic skills.

You'll gain hands-on experience with:

  • Propulsion techniques that support your baby’s ability to move forward through the water using gentle paddling and kicking motions

  • Floating positions that encourage your baby to relax and feel secure in the water while building balance and core strength

  • Coordination-building activities that help develop motor skills and spatial awareness

These foundational skills are not only essential for your baby's future swimming ability, but also create meaningful bonding moments between parent and child. With guidance from our trained instructors, you'll leave each session feeling more confident and connected, knowing you’re supporting your little one’s growth in the most nurturing way possible.

Week 2

Introduction to Submersion Cues and Preparation for Safe Underwater Experiences

In this stage, we introduce gentle and consistent verbal and physical cues to help babies and young children begin to understand and anticipate going underwater. These cues—such as saying the child’s name followed by a word like “ready, go” while gently pouring water over their head—are essential for developing breath control and reducing surprise or anxiety during submersion.

By using these cues consistently and calmly, children begin to associate the cue with what’s about to happen, helping them feel safe, supported, and confident. We also guide parents on how to recognise when their child is ready for submersion and how to prepare them with comfort, control, and clear communication.

This step is all about building trust and laying the foundation for positive underwater experiences—a vital part of their swimming journey.

Week 3

Water Safety Essentials – Monkeying, Floating, and Safe Entries & Exits

One of the most critical parts of early swim education is introducing water safety skills that can truly make a difference in an emergency. In our program, we focus on teaching essential safety movements in a playful, age-appropriate way—so your baby or toddler begins to build muscle memory and instinctual responses in and around water.

You'll learn how to help your child practice:

  • Monkeying along the pool edge—using their hands to grip and move sideways, a fun but vital skill that teaches them how to get to safety if they ever fall in.

  • Floating—both assisted and independently, to help them develop buoyancy awareness and learn how to stay calm in the water.

  • Safe entries and exits—including how to guide your child in and out of the water properly, and importantly, how to assist and support them if they were to fall in unexpectedly.

By regularly practicing these movements, your child begins to understand their body in the water and how to move safely through it. And as a parent, you'll feel empowered knowing how to support these skills, building a foundation of safety, trust, and confidence every time you enter the pool together.

Week 4

Putting It All Together – Preparing for Structured Swimming Lessons!

As we wrap up our Water Introduction Program, this final stage is all about bringing together everything you and your little one have learned—from floating and propulsion to submersion cues and water safety. It’s a gentle yet exciting transition into our structured Learn to Swim classes, where your child will continue to build skills with confidence and joy.

Our goal is to ensure that both parent and child feel comfortable, capable, and ready to take the next step in their aquatic journey. With the foundation now in place, your little swimmer is set up for success as they enter our Water Babies class and beyond!

We are currently taking expressions of interest for classes running on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdaysthroughout May, June, July, and August.

👉 Fill out our Google Form to let us know which days and times suit you best, and we’ll be in touch to help you find the perfect fit.
